Carnarvon Gorge is one of Queensland's hidden treasures, with a smorgasbord of natural attractions in all directions. Coming from Brisbane, the easiest way is via Roma and Injune which takes about nine hours. Or, is half the distance south west of Rockhampton. One of the best ways to enjoy a holiday in the forest, in the car, as there are excellent camping facilities and you can stay long as it is to enjoy the beauty of this wilderness retreat lasts.

Bush TakarakkaResort is an ideal base with excellent facilities including a supermarket and in the middle of all the great walks. The grounds and surroundings are great for a walk to enjoy with the Platypus Pool just around the corner and looking close to an ideal location for exploring the cliff sunset. Kangaroos and wallabies are locals here, as well as the occasional prickly echidna. The information center near the starting point for many excursions.

The best time to visit is betweenMarch and October, when temperatures are mild, although it is very cold at night. The summer months bring temperatures 40 ° C during the day so the water holes in an ideal way to escape the heat, and there are not many visitors at this time. This is also the rainy season, so time to get a few storms. The canyon is so large that it is as easy as the only person in the world feel when you get off the beaten track on some of the longer walks.

IFascinated by this "oasis in the desert," since my first training camp, and I still remember the amazement I felt when we left the carriage in a world of eucalyptus trees, kangaroos and water holes. I still remember the thrill of finally reached the lookout canyon, the strangeness of moss gardens, and the echoes of the natural amphitheater. Each visit has won my heart, and thankfully the natural beauty of the canyon has remained exactly as it was in all these yearsbefore.

The main attraction is the canyon itself, and avid hikers enjoy the many walks available. Everyone is well and is suitable for most fitness levels. The Rock Pool is a favorite walk that ends at a time in a picnic area and a pool in the shade of Casuarina trees and ferns increases. If you're lucky you might see a platypus or two. The Gardens Moss few hours there and back, but the reward is an incredible display silky moss, fern and thick undergrowth. The rockWalls appear in the head with a canopy of palms, ferns and all green tower.

The route, which returned only one hour is a must and can be enjoyed at dawn or dusk Creek better capture the animals, colors and beautiful scenery along Carnarvon on his. The walk Boolimba Bluff leads to a panoramic view of the throat. You do not forget your camera and produced a series of steps and stairs. It's worth trekking to the incredible scenery of the gorge at itsbetter. My favorite has always been the amphitheater, just leaning on a sturdy ladder can be in his room two hundred feet, have been achieved. Once you're inside it's hard to believe, that has such an impressive attraction formed by the sheer force of flowing water.

Another good idea is to make a day trip through the canyon, to plan a series of excursions. For example, the Aboriginal Art Gallery, Ward's Canyon, and Moss Amphitheater Gardens are all interconnected. The tours weredesigned so that a number of them from the path of the main branch. For lovers of flora and fauna, Ward's Canyon is another must do with the pride of the world's largest fern in the display.

Why not pack a picnic and a walk to lead the Devil or The Ranch for the day? The tracks are easily marked, but not as often used, which means they often have the wilderness to themselves. Another option is to go the length adventure of Carnarvon Gorge. This is to make a nightthe demands of a schedule, but worth every minute of breathtaking scenery.

Birdwatchers think they're in heaven with the wedge-tailed eagle, peregrine falcon, Rainbow lorikeets, parrots and kookaburras King just some of the birds here at home. Dusk is always strong, with a variety of birds singing to each other about the campsites. We can not forget the frogmouth and Tawny owls live in the night.

You need to plan for at least three days a week, most of the experiencesCarnarvon Gorge. There is something driving through the Outback for miles and finally reached an oasis of this magnitude. Once you visit you must come again and again.
